This article presents a critical study of the representation of Chinese civilization, culture, and society in Ibn-e-Insha’s travelogue Chalte Ho To Cheen Ko Chaliye. The study examines various dimensions of Chinese social and cultural life as observed and portrayed by the author during his visit to China in 1966. Particular emphasis is placed on the social customs and traditions, simplicity of lifestyle, self-respect, commitment to work, dress, music, gender roles, transportation, education, hospitality, and dietary practices of the Chinese people. The travelogue provides a comprehensive portrayal of Chinese society during a period of significant social and economic transformation. Ibn-e-Insha’s observations highlight the values of discipline, simplicity, hard work, patriotism, dignity, and social responsibility among the Chinese people. The study concludes that Chalte Ho To Cheen Ko Chaliye is a significant Urdu travelogue that offers a detailed literary account of Chinese civilization and provides valuable insight into the social, cultural, and economic conditions of China during the period under discussion.
