In modern Muslim societies, the problems of intolerance and extremism are serious and urgent issues. The present research paper attempts to explore the issue of sectarian intolerance in Pakistan. The special feature of this research is the connection with the territory of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Following the Quran, Sunnah, and the practice of Khulafa-e-Rashideen, Islam has always promoted equality, freedom of conscience, and peace. Moreover, the basic concepts of different Islamic schools of jurisprudence will be presented and discussed. Since the problem of intolerance is manifested precisely in Pakistan, the reasons for it are deep historical, cultural, and political. One of the most pressing reasons for intolerance is the misuse of the concept of takfiri and the abuse of clerics’ speeches in mosques. The paper will also suggest possible solutions to the problem, such as inter-sectarian dialogue and freedom of speech and others.
