Islam is a universal and comprehensive way of life that aims to guide humanity toward the worship of Allah, moral purification, social justice, and success in this world and the Hereafter. In Islam, Da’wah (inviting people to the path of Allah) is regarded as a fundamental mission entrusted to all Prophets and subsequently to the Muslim Ummah. The Qur’an and the Sunnah establish the foundational principles of Da’wah, while the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) demonstrated a practical and dynamic methodology by employing diverse means of communication suited to the social, cultural, and historical circumstances of his time. These traditional means included mosques, sermons, personal interactions, correspondence, delegations, educational activities, and exemplary moral conduct. In the contemporary era, rapid advancements in information technology, globalization, digital communication, social media, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) have significantly transformed the methods of disseminating knowledge and religious guidance. Although the objectives, ethical foundations, and principles of Islamic Da’wah remain constant, its methods and communication tools continue to evolve in response to changing societal needs and technological developments. This transformation has created unprecedented opportunities for the global dissemination of Islamic teachings while simultaneously presenting new challenges, including misinformation, digital ethics, Islamophobia, and the responsible use of emerging technologies. This research presents an analytical and applied study of the classical and contemporary means of Islamic Da’wah in the light of the Qur’an, Sunnah, Seerah of the Prophet (ﷺ), and contemporary scholarly discourse. Employing a qualitative and analytical research methodology, the study critically examines the effectiveness, scope, limitations, and practical relevance of both traditional and modern Da’wah tools. It argues that while the objectives and principles of Da’wah are immutable, its methods remain flexible and adaptable to changing contexts, provided they conform to the ethical and legal framework of Islamic teachings. The study is organized into three major sections. The first discusses the conceptual framework of Da’wah, its Qur’anic and Prophetic foundations, and the notion of Da’wah methodologies. The second analyzes the traditional means of Da’wah and their practical application in the Prophetic era, whereas the third explores contemporary communication tools including print and electronic media, social media platforms, websites, online learning environments, mobile applications, podcasts, and Artificial Intelligence and evaluates their potential and challenges from an Islamic perspective. The study concludes that integrating the Prophetic methodology with modern communication technologies, supported by scholarly authenticity, ethical responsibility, and strategic planning, is essential for developing an effective and sustainable model of Islamic Da’wah capable of addressing the intellectual and social challenges of the twenty-first century.
