This research examines the impact of innovative teaching methods on developing problem-solving skills through
descriptive writing among elementary teachers (English) in Pakistan. It highlights the potential of descriptive
writing to enhance critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving. As a fundamental cognitive tool, descriptive
writing was studied as an under-researched area. A questionnaire was administered to 75 elementary English
teachers to assess their use of creative techniques such as project-based learning (PBL), peer feedback,
interactive storytelling, and creative writing prompts. The evidence suggests these strategies are effective in
fostering problem-solving, especially highlighting the positive influence of creative and student-centered
approaches. Nevertheless, challenges such as overcrowded classrooms, limited resources, and linguistic diversity
hinder the implementation of these techniques. Teachers expressed confidence in adopting new methods but also
voiced concerns about inadequate training and resource shortages. Despite these difficulties, teachers recognized
the value of innovative approaches to teaching descriptive writing, as they promote critical and creative thinking.
It is proposed that addressing barriers—such as participation in professional development, access to teaching
resources, and classroom size—could enhance the success of these methods. The study concludes with a
recommendation for professional development programmes, resource distribution, and curriculum adaptations
suited to local contexts, aiming to improve the quality of education and its problem-solving capacity across
primary schools in Pakistan. Further research is needed to explore low-tech, culturally sensitive interventions
and their impact on student outcomes in low-resource settings.
