Abstract

Na’at is a significant genre of Urdu literature that expresses love, devotion, reverence, and spiritual attachment to the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Although the tradition of Na’at writing has predominantly been associated with male poets, women poets have also made a valuable and distinctive contribution to its development. This study explores the tradition of Na’at writing among women poets in Urdu literature and examines its historical evolution, thematic dimensions, and artistic characteristics. It focuses on the ways in which women poets have expressed their profound love and devotion to the Holy Prophet (PBUH) through poetic language and imagery. Their Na’at poetry reflects not only religious and spiritual sentiments but also themes of morality, compassion, humanity, faith, and inner purification. The study also highlights the distinctive feminine perspective found in their poetic expression, including emotional depth, tenderness, humility, and spiritual longing. By examining selected Na’at compositions of prominent women poets, this research aims to identify their contribution to the enrichment of Urdu Na’at literature and to demonstrate their role in preserving and extending this literary tradition. The study concludes that women poets have established a meaningful and distinctive place within the history of Urdu Na’at and have contributed significantly to its thematic and artistic development.
