This research paper presents an ideological analysis of the religious character Hujjat-ul-Islam in Deputy Nazir Ahmad’s novel Ibn-ul-Waqt. The study explores the character’s religious beliefs, moral values, and intellectual outlook in the context of British colonial rule and the social transformation of Muslim society. Hujjat-ul-Islam serves as a representative of Islamic teachings, ethical conduct, and cultural identity, while strongly opposing the blind imitation of Western civilization. Through his dialogue, behaviour, and interaction with other characters, Deputy Nazir Ahmad highlights the importance of preserving religious principles and moral integrity in a rapidly changing society. This paper argues that Hujjat-ul-Islam is not merely a religious figure but an ideological voice through which the novelist expresses his vision of faith, social reform, and the balance between tradition and modernity. The study concludes that Hujjat-ul-Islam occupies a significant position among the religious characters of Urdu fiction due to his firm commitment to Islamic values and his intellectual influence on the novel’s central themes.
